Edward W. Paduck
Edward W. Paduck, 90, a lifelong resident of Rome, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Colonial Park Nursing Home. Ed was born in Rome, N.Y., on January 16, 1923, son of the late Paul and Elizabeth Wohn Paduck. He was the fifth of six children. Ed was married on June 12, 1948, to the love of his life, Lucille Pace. She passed away December 31, 2004.
Ed attended Rome Free Academy and worked in Rome's manufacturing industry from 1939 until 1943 when he joined the United States Marine Corps and served until 1946. Ed was a Marine at heart throughout the remainder of his life and enjoyed singing the Marine Corps anthem. He and his three brothers faithfully served their country during WWII with his brother Theodore giving the ultimate sacrifice for the defense of his country. Truly Ed belonged to a family of heroes.
Ed worked for Rome Cable for over 35 years. He was an accomplished bowler and golfer, belonging to various Rome leagues for a large part of his working and retired life. Ed enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening as well as being an expert gadget maker of practical and useful tools. He helped to build the Rome Polish Home, All Saints Polish National Church, his parents' home, his sister's home and his own home, all in his spare time and all with expert precision and beautiful finishing touches. He was a master of several trades.
Surviving is a sister, Lottie Bryla, Arlington, TX; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Paduck, of Rome, and Margaret Pace, Va.; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Pace, of Rome; nieces, Helen Pachaud and Ann Marie Gerken, Calif., Elizabeth Haney, Arlington, Texas, and Gail Ryan, Rome; nephews Brian Flowers, Escandido, Calif., and Theodore Paduck, Memphis, Tenn. He was predeceased by brothers Theodore Paduck, Casimer Paduck and Paul Paduck, and a sister Josephine Flowers.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Rome Memorial Hospital and Colonial Park Nursing Home and their staffs for the fine care and many kindnesses given to Ed and his family and friends during his time spent with them. A special thanks to Lucy Seigler, John Ryan and neighbor Angelo Carletta for their wonderful care and warm friendship which they gave to Ed over the past several years at his time of greatest need.
We now celebrate his reunion with his much loved wife and family.
