Richard E. Marsh, Jr.
Richard E. Marsh, Jr., 44 of Rome, went home to be with The Lord, on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on July 20, 1969, in Rome, NY to Richard E. Sr. and Charlotte Anne Marie Lamere Marsh. Richard Jr. attended Rome Schools and spent the majority of his life living in and around the Oneida County area. While primarily a stay at home father during the last years of his life, he worked as a laborer for a variety of employers including: The Oneida Nation, Rome Sentinel Co. and Owners of the former Maple Croft Nursery.
Richard was a true Roman where he "Lived, Worked and Played". He enjoyed the simple things in life most, such as his family, his friends and laughter. Richard spent a lot of his time fishing and camping along the banks of the Mohawk River. His specialty was building campfires. Richard will be especially remembered for saving the life of a five year old boy, when he was just fourteen years old. While fishing on the Mohawk River, Richard spotted the boy and reacted with heroism by swimming into the water and pulling the boy to safety. He later performed CPR on the boy and as a result the boy still lives today. For his act of bravery, Richard received an Honorary Citizen Award, presented by the Mayor of Rome.
His survivors include his father, Richard E. Marsh, Sr., Rome, two brothers and a sister-in-law James Marsh, Rome, David and Pamala Marsh, Reading, PA, a sister and brother-in-law Kami-Lynne Randall and Rick Turk, Butte, MT. Also surviving are Richard's best friend and love of his life, Katherine Kirkham and his four children, sons Dakota and Brendan and daughters Emily and Abigail. Richard is also survived by his nephews Mathew, Andrew, Cori and Kevin, his nieces Bianca, Kami, Shelby and Pearl. He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte, who passed away, September 10, 1988.
