Gina M. Handy
Gina M. Handy, of Rome, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse. She was born in Utica, NY, daughter of the late Salvatore and Guiseppina Cottone Barone. On June 22, 1996 she married Walter C. Handy, Jr., in St. John the Baptist Church. Gina retired from NY State OGS and was formerly employed at the Holiday Inn and Jet Cleaners. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Gina will be sadly missed by her many dear friends.
Surviving besides her husband Walter are three sons, Robert Del Vecchio, Winter Park, FL, Gary Del Vecchio, Altamonte Springs, FL., and Mark Torrance Handy, Schenectady, NY; five grandchildren Monique and her husband Mario Manzi, Milton, Ontario, Canada, Gina Jenks, S. Hadley, MA, Sean Del Vecchio, Winter Park, FL, Daira Curran, Tampa, FL, and Jacob Handy, Schenectady, NY; five great grandchildren, Flora Manzi, Celina Manzi, Guiseppi Manzi, Allison Jenks and Samantha Jenks. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law Yvette Del Vecchio, Springfield, MA; several nieces and nephews including an nephew August and his wife Linda LaMonica, Rome, a sister-in-law Dianne Ammerman, Slingerlands, NY, and a brother-in-law Charles Handy, Marshall Islands. She was predeceased by a sister Josephine LaMonica and a sister-in-law Nancy LoFaro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Private burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort, NY. There are no calling hours. The family will receive friends at St. John the Baptist Church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to her Funeral Mass.
