Richard L. Storms
Richard 'Dick' L. Storms, 82, of Blossvale, passed away peacefully, after a 2 year battle with leukemia, on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Rome Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Rome, NY on July 10, 1931, a son of the late Thomas and Rose Anson Storms and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948-51. On March 7, 1953, he was united in marriage to Virginia Money at Zion Episcopal Church, Rome.
Dick was an owner-operator trucker for over forty years, retiring from Jones Motor Co. in 1993. He enjoyed fixing anything and everything, working on his vehicles, gardening and feeding the birds. His many dogs and cats, over the years, were very special to him.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Renny Parker, Camden; Lorna and Jack Harrington, Blossvale; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard and Kim Storms, Lexington, NC and Randall Storms, Blossvale; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Gloria Storms and a brother, Gary Storms, both of Rome;sisters-in-law, Ramona Karsten and Angie Money, both of Rome; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Gertrude Storms; a grandson, Sgt. Elisha Richard Parker, USMC; asister-in-law, Shirley Jones; and brothers-in-law, Robert Karsten, Willard Money and Wayne Money.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Cotronea and Dr. Gullo, the nurses on 2 East at Rome Memorial Hospital and the special nurses in the Ambulatory Dept, 4th Floor, at Rome Hospital for the care they gave Dick during his illness.
Family funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26th at 11 a.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, 218 W. Court St., Rome with Rev. Heather Benson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. There are no public calling hours.
