Mary R. Fiore Mary R. Fiore, 96, of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2013, at Rome Memorial Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Mary was born on February 17, 1917, in Rome NY, the daughter of the late Giacinto and Caterina Salati Spaziani. On June 12, 1937, she married Ferdinand "Slim" Fiore in St. John the Baptist Church, with the Rev. O'Connor officiating. This was a special double wedding ceremony, because in addition to Slim and Mary, Slim's sister Yolanda and Mary's brother James were also joined together in holy matrimony. Mary and Slim were a lucky couple right from the onset. This was evidenced by the fact that Mary and Slim were able o go on a honeymoon and even buy some furniture with $400 that Slim won during "Bank Night" at the Capitol Theatre. Slim passed away on September 27, 2008, after sharing a blessed union of 71 years together. Mary was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. Mary certainly had a wonderful and fulfilling life, filled with exciting and interesting times. She was a great cook and had a passion for baking - her chocolate chip cookies were the best in the world as were her biscotti and other Italian cookies! She also loved to bocce, bowl, golf and travel. She especially enjoyed her many trips to Italy. Mary also loved to be surrounded by her family and had many wonderful friends. She had a beautiful smile and a generous heart, and will deeply be missed by all. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Naz and Alice Fiore, and Richard and Marella Fiore; one son-in-law, Henry Zucker, all of Rome; seven cherished grandchildren and spouses, David Fiore (Paola), Mary Fiore Perkins (Jeffrey), Kristin Fiore Hughes (David), Catherine Fiore Selke (Lee), Paul Zucker (Bobette), Adam Fiore (Stacey), Erica Fiore Renzi (Joseph); and seventeen great-grandchildren.
