Edward A. Cimo Edward A. Cimo, 81, of Rome, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on August 1,1927, son of the late Antonio and Nellie Smaldon Cimo. Mr. Cimo was educated in Rome Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was on active duty overseas and received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars and a United Nations Service Medal. Many years later, at a gathering hosted by the Air Force Research Laboratory-Directorate at Griffiss Business and Technology Park, he and nine other New York State veterans were presented with the Korean Medal and letter of appreciation from Kim Dae-jung, president of the Repbulic of Korea. Mr. Cimo retired from Griffiss Air Force Base. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Ed was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He hunted and hiked the Adirondacks and also built himself a cottage on Lake Eaton. Surviving are three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Mariano Cimo, Frank and Marianna Cimo, and Joseph and Diane Cimo, all of Rome; a sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Paul Ottavio, of Rome; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant brother, Joseph Cimo, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Joseph Vaccaro and Rosemary and Joseph Barbato, and a sister-in-law, Anna Cimo. Edward's family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Erim for the exceptional care during Edward's illness. Also a special thank you to Laura, to the staff of 3rd floor east, and to his roommate Jim for his tolerance and concern. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St John the Baptist Church, where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider memorial contributions to a charity of choice.
