Pat Grosso , 83, of Rome, passed away Monday, September 15, 2008 at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on February 6, 1925, son of the late Vincenzo and Francesca Citro Grosso. Pat graduated from Rome Free Academy in June of 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 5, 1943 to March 5, 1946 when he was honorably discharged. Pat served during World War II on board the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Hornet. Mr. Grosso received the Presidential Unit Citation with one bronze star; the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with nine bronze stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. Pat worked at Rome Manufacturing Company for 38 -1/2 years, retiring on September 1, 1985. While employed at Rome Manufacturing Company, he was very active in Union affairs, having served as a shop steward, chairman and member of the executive board, and a delegate to the national convention. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Pat was a past governor and life member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Rome, Lodge 901, life member of the V.F.W. Rome Post 2246, life member of the H.P. Smith Post 24 American Legion. Mr. Grosso was also a very active member of the Democratic party since 1946, having served as a committeeman and ward chairman in the Third Ward and Seventh Ward in the City of Rome.
Surviving are, his life-long and devoted companion, Mildred Mirarchi, Rome, a daughter, Priscilla Sparks, Lee Center: and a brother, Albert Albie Grosso, Rome.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 10;30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemtery. Friends may callat the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.
