Obituary of Joseph J. Mercurio

Joseph J. Mercurio , 85, of Rome, entered into eternal life on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Lake Park Nursing Home, Indian Trail, N.C. He was born in Rome, NY on March 7, 1922 son of the late Rosario and Angela Froio Mercurio Joe attended Rome Schools. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. On October 26, 1946 he married Dorothy Stumpo in St. John The Baptist Church. She entered into eternal life on September 18, 1996. Mr. Mercurio retired from Spargo Wire Company and was a former member of St. John the Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joesph Mercurio, Maryland, Ernie and Susan Scalero, Arizona; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and David Derby, Indian Trail, N.C.; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Isabel and James Mannino, Rome; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, George and Mary Mercurio, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen and August Scalero, and Rose Migliori, and a great granddaughter, Danielle Derby. Funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, N.C. 28204.
