Obituary of Martin E. Carrado

Martin E. Carrado , 87, of Rome, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital, New Hartford. He was born in Rome, NY on September 16, 1921, son of the late Nick Sr. and Irma Panara Carrado. Marty graduated from Rome Free Academy. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Seabees. On June 27, 1959 he married Mary Ballard in Our Lady Of Good Counsel Church, Verona, a blessed union of 50 years. Mr. Carrado was owner of Martin Home Inspection and other businesses. He was an investment advisor for many years. Marty also worked as a mason and salesman. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, a member and past president of the local masons' union, and Rome Property Owners Association. Marty was the oldest working inspector and an officer of the American Society of Home Inspectors. Other memberships included the Rome Weed and Seed Committee, Toccolana Club, and was an avid speaker at many council meetings.
Surviving besides his wife, Mary; are four daughters, Kathleen Carrado Gregar, Ph.D. and her husband, Joseph Gregar, Naperville, Ill., Jean Carrado Neis and her husband, Kevin Neis, Naperville, Ill., Diane Carrado Simmons and her husband, Wesley Simmons, Cypress, Texas, Amy Carrado and her husband, Kurtis Studebaker, North Aurora, Ill.; a son, Nick Carrado, and a daughter-in-law, Mae, of Rome; eight grandchildren, Gregory and Justin Simmons, Emily, Elizabeth and Patrick Neis, Dean Martin Carrado, Tracey Gregar Ferak and Joseph Gregar Jr. Also surviving are a sister, Anna Frasca, Rome; a brother, Raymond Carrado, Massachusetts; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Lucy (as an infant), Palma "Pam" Carrado, and Dora McLane; and a brother, Nick Carrado Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. Peter's Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Peter's Church Memorial Fund.
