I met Phil while working with him at Delta Lake State Park, in 1970. We mowed lawns, built picnic tables, dug ditches, and picked up garbage. Being on the same crew with Phil made it worth going to work each day. Straight up, he was an awesome dude. I am now in San Francisco.

Phil lived next to us in Summerville, S.C. He became more than a neighbor but a friend. He will always be remembered for living with such zest while knowing his earthly body was in such peril. Sometimes we'd hear him burst out in song and other times we would see him practicing baseball with his daughters.Although we only knew him a few years compared to some, we always will remember his courageous way of facing life and living it to the fullness. He was a joyful man and a caring husband and father, and I believe to all who had the opportunity to know him, he will be gravely missed.
With thoughts and prayers to the family,
Gary & Mona Robbins

Phil, sorry I didn't get to say good-by before you went to play in the Big Show. I know all who knew you will morn your departure. I once read something a doctor wrote that stuck with me all these years. He wrote " During my life I have delivered many babies and been with many people in their final moments. In the end it does not matter how much money or education you have or what your social status is. All that matters is who you loved and who loved you. " You were loved by many my friend and will be missed by all. Your friend, Skip. P.S. Say Hi to the Babe for me, I know you'll be lookin him up.

We met Phil and his family when they lived in South Carolina. Such a great person, and such a crazy sense of humor! He would make me laugh with some of the stories he told, but would keep such a straight face when telling it...I often wondered if he was kidding or not. But that's just one of the many things that made him so special. His dedication to softball and the girls that played for him was unbelievable! I know because of that dedication, many of the girls that played for him here in SC went on to play college ball. He saw the potential in these kids, and really worked with them. I missed Phil and his family when they left to go back home to NY (which is where he always wanted to be), and now I miss him all over again now that he's gone home to the Lord. I love and miss you all!

Phill was like a father to me. He brought me into the game of softball and helped to show my talent. He showed me the love for the game. I would be sure to always be on his team. I still remember the first name we had "Chetto Crunchers" haha. Memories i will never for get. I also loved the way he would just make me smile from telling stories(the toy car he crushed) to just being phill (with that stogie he always had). I will never forget him. He was one of that best people to ever come into my life. He will be missed.
