Joseph C. Schillaci Sr. Joseph C. Schillaci, Sr., 86, of Rome, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. Joseph was born in Rome, NY on May 15,1922 to the late Philip and Salvatora Schillaci. Joseph attended Rome Schools. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII. Joseph was employed for twenty-seven years through transportation services at Rome Developmental Disabilities Services Office (DDSO). He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and the H.P.Smith Post American Legion. On October 7, 1944, Joseph married his loving wife of 64 years, Bambina "Bam" Volpe. Through the years Joseph and his wife enjoyed their special trips to Atlantic City. Their time was best spent sitting side by side on their front porch or working in the garden. Joseph took great pride in life and shared a special love for all of his seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife Bam; are two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Jacquiline Schillaci, Joseph Jr. and Ann Schillaci, all of Rome; seven grandchildren, Lisa and her husband Darren Bergh, of Amsterdam, NY, Phillip and his wife Gina Schillaci, of Marcy, Brian and his wife Jennifer Schillaci, of Rome, Tricia and her husband Brent Warzocha, of Niskayuna, NY, Kimberly and her fiance' Vivek Kumar, of Connecticut, Joseph III and his wife Stacie Schillaci, of Charlotte, NC, Valerie and her husband Evan DeGennaro, of Vestal, NY; and ten great grandchildren, DeShawn, Ryan, Kory, Alexa, Dominique, Gianna, Antoina, Treva, Marina, and Krish. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, David and Angie Schillaci, and two sisters, Angie Schillaci and Pauline Mazzaferro, all of Rome; and several nieces and nephews, He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Salvatora Schillaci, his sisters, Rose Lorusso, Josephine Ortolano, Grace Schillaci and Mary Schillaci and his brothers Salvatore Schillaci and Frank Schillaci. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care for their wonderful assistance, especially his favorite nurses Ann Amato and Jane Nieman. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome, and at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care at 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413
