Obituary of Thomas "Butch" A. Mercurio, Jr.

Thomas "Butch" A. Mercurio, Jr. Thomas "Butch" A. Mercurio, Jr., 72 of Rome, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at his home. He was born in Rome, NY on October 10, 1942 son of the late Thomas "Tony" A. and Lottie Recchio Mercurio. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1961. Butch enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam along with his brother Steve Mercurio. After serving his country he was employed by General Cable. On July 27, 1968 he married Jeanette Ann Storey in St. John the Baptist Church. He was later employed by the United States Postal Service where he retired after 35 years of service. Butch was an active member of Francis Steczko Post and enjoyed spending time with his many friends there. Butch is survived by his loving wife Jeanette, son Thomas Mercurio, Rome, three daughters Michelle Wiggins, Rome, Lisa Tsetsilas, Virginia, Janelle Garnsey and her fiancé Bruce Matteson, Sherrill. Two grandsons Alex Tsetsilas, Virginia and Glen Garnsey, Sherrill. Two granddaughters Nicole and Zoe Tsetsilas of Virginia. Also surviving are two brothers' and one sister-in-law Steve (Della) Mercurio and Dominick Mercurio, Rome. Three sisters' and three brothers in-law Camille "Joseph" Musa, Ohio, Ann Autrey and her fiancé Herb Gould, Rome, Linda "Tim" Traxel, Bossvale, Charles Storey, Rome, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents-in-law George and Theresa Storey, a sister Catherine Stallings and a brother-in-law Gary Autrey. A special thanks to best friend Angelo DePasquale; brother-in-law Charles Storey and neighbors Chuck and Nancy Szmurlo for all their help during Butch's illness. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 7:15 pm at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 pm.
