Obituary of Laura F. Fontana

Laura F. Fontana Laura F. Fontana, 94, a lifelong resident of Rome, NY passed away at the Focus Rehab and Nursing Center in Utica, NY on Sunday, July 12, 2015. She was born in Rome, NY on August 5, 1920 daughter of the late Pasquale and Fermina Anania. Laura attended Rome public and parochial schools and graduated from The Academy of Holy Names in 1938. After high school she was employed by Lerman's Furniture and the office of Dr. Francis Valone. On November 30, 1946 she married Fiore (Lalo) Fontana in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, a blessed union of 58 years. Fiore passed away on December 16, 2004. As a woman of profound faith, religion was a primary focus of Laura's life. She served her Lord for decades both as an instructor in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and as a member of the Legion of Mary, for whom she had a special devotion. Laura was a communicant of St. Paul's Catholic Church for the majority of her life. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Anthony M. and Karen Fontana, Joseph and Barbara S. Fontana all of Rome; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1807 Bedford St., Rome, NY on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with interment immediately following at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
