Ruby A. Luiere
Ruby A. Luiere, 100, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Amsterdam, NY on December 5, 1915, a daughter of the late Rodrigo and Susana Quintanal San Emeterio. On January 24, 1940 she married Rocco Luiere Sr., in St. John the Baptist Church. Ruby worked at Griffiss AFB during the World War II effort, Carl's Drug Store and Rome Developmental Center. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
Ruby loved going to the casino, watching old movie musicals, crocheting and visiting with friends. Ruby always prayed for the welfare of her family and friends each day.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ramona L. and Craig Smith, Rome, a son and daughter-in-law, Rocco Jr. and Janet Luiere, Henderson, NV; five grandchildren, Michael J. Luiere, Las Vegas, NV, Suzanne, and husband, Tony Varano, Rome, Heidi Hardin, Rome, Renee and husband Phil Williams, Canandaigua, NY; Rocco III, and wife Stephanie Luiere, Eugene, Oregon; eight great grandchildren; Mackenzie Hardin, Anthony and wife Tia Varano, Alicia Varano, Duban, Maria and Olivia Williams, Cameron and Ian Luiere; two great great grandchildren Steven and Mason Varano,a sister, Elizabeth (Midge) Ferlo and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rocco Luiere Sr., who passed away November 14, 1999, a daughter, Roxanne Luiere, who passed away October 3, 1993, three brothers, Frank, Eloy and Joseph Emeterio, a sister Mary Conover; and a special niece Lorraine (Chi Chi Brown).
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Betsy Ross for the loving care they gave to Ruby and for the friendship of many of the residents.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:15 a.m., on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., and at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 7751 Merrick Rd., on Thursday, August 25, 2016, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
