Mary Caroline "Carolyn" Bush
Mary Caroline "Carolyn" Bush, 93, passed away peacefully on, Friday, September 16, 2016, with daughter Sheila by her side.
Mrs. Bush was a life-long active Roman. Born, July 13,1923, on River Street to Joseph and Mary (Page) Angotti. In 1941 she graduated from the Academy of Holy Names High School. She began an administrative career with Rome Cable that same year. Mrs. Bush moved to an administrative support position with the US Air Force at Griffis Air Force Base in 1953. In 1951 she married WW II veteran and future Rome Police Officer Joseph A. Bush. In 1960, a critical patrol accident to Mr. Bush required Caroline to provide extensive home care for her husband and raise their four children. In 1971 Mrs. Bush joined the Rome Murphy Memorial Hospital staff and was later selected as the Hospital's administrative assistant to the Director. She retired from the City of Rome Civil Service in 1979. Mrs. Bush remained active in retirement serving in a variety of leadership positions with the Butternut TWIG, providing many hours of volunteer work at the Rome Hospital. Caroline was an avid bowler and golfer throughout her life. She traveled widely with friends and family. Caroline participated in senior citizen activities and other volunteer work through the Ava Dorfman Center and Rome Historical Society and was a dynamic force in a weekly bridge alliance hosted at the South Rome Senior Center.
Mrs. Bush had an extensive family and network of friends who loved her and appreciated her independence and sense of humor. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law; Joseph A. and Cheryl Bush, Chattanooga TN; Lawrence and Rhonda Bush, Seattle WA, Patrick J. and Shalini Bush, Falls Church, VA, a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila A. and Michael Waters, Rome, NY, eight grandchildren; Jason Bush, Jonathan Bush, Joshua Bush, Colin Waters and girlfriend Kelly Biette, Mikaila Waters, Jack-Henry Bush, Vikram Bush, Vinay Bush, and one great grandchild, Jayden Bush. Also surviving is a brother, Anthony D. Angotti, Rome and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Angotti, who passed away in 2011.
Funeral Services will be private. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Tree of Lights Foundation c/o Rome Hospital, Rome, NY.
