In the mid to late 60s, Joey was my best buddy. Eddie was his older brother, and despite Joey’s denials, we both looked up to him. He was older, he was handsome, and he was cool… very cool back in the day… naturally. Every girl we knew had a crush on Eddie, even my kid sister.
I was an Air Force brat, a kid from the base, and the Zigrinos lived just a short walk from base housing there in Rome. For a couple years, I spent nearly as much time there as I did on Mars Drive, especially after I got my first car, a 1962 robin egg blue Chrysler Newport… which Joey helped me wreck and repair… sort of.
My dad retired in ’69 and the family moved up north to Plattsburgh. That’s when I lost touch with Joey, the car, and Eddie as well.
Fifty years later, there’s an eMail from my kid sister here in my InBox with a link to this memorial… it’s Ed Zig, still cool as ever.

Eddie was very faithful to the church for decades. I knew him before his transformation as one very tough person that you did not want to mess with. RIP my friend.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one in death is so painful. And some may question God as to why he took their loved one. But the Bible explains in Romans 5:12 that because Adam disobeyed God, we as his descendants die. But God has promised to resurrected our dead loved ones and to eliminate death forever. (Acts 24:15; Revelation 21:4) I hope these scriptures can help all in grief.
