Eleanor C. DeSantis Eleanor C. DeSantis, 88, of Rome, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, NY, after an extended illness. Eleanor was born in Rome, NY, on September 8, 1920, daughter of Carl and Adeline Cangiano. After graduating from Rome Free Academy in 1939, she married Rubino DeSantis, who passed away in 1999. Mrs. DeSantis was a retiree of Griffiss Air Force Base. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Church. Eleanor loved gardening, reading, mentoring and teaching. She also loved to cook and was well known for her ravioli. Eleanor was particularly fond of animals, especially Ella, her companion dog for years who accompanied her to the Clare Bridge facility, where she resided from 2008 until her passing. Mrs. DeSantis is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Phyllis DeSantis, of Clarence, NY; a grandson, Mark DeSantis, of Clarence, NY; and a granddaughter, Laura DeSantis, of Washington, D.C. Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and John Muttillo and Stella and Sam DeSimone, all of Rome; and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by another sister, Anna Mosca. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 210 W. Dominick St., Rome, N.Y. 13440.
