Obituary of Mary A. Gallien
Mary Angela Gallien, 92, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2019, at Bethany Gardens. She was born in Rome, NY, on January 1, 1927, daughter of the late Vincent and Domenica Amoroso Lentino. Mary attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1945.
On June 11, 1949, she married George R. Gallien, Sr., in St. John the Baptist Church. They were married for nearly 59 years until he passed away on February 15, 2008.
Mary worked at Griffiss Air Force base as a secretary for many years. She was very welcoming to all who entered her home, from relatives to public service workers, always making meals for all. She is best known for delivering Christmas cookies around the city of Rome. She taught her children above all to always forgive others, to stay positive and hopeful.
Surviving are three children; a son, George Gallien, Jr. of Rome, two daughters and sons-in-law; Mary Angela Swist (Henry) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Janet Brittain (Howard) of Buffalo, NY. She had 9 grandchildren Michael (Christina) Pettinelli, Jr., Jennifer (James) Bearup, Marissa Pettinelli, Timothy (Sarah) Gallien, Clare (Nate) Maliwacki, Stephen (Allison) Brittain, Justin (Rebecca) Brittain, Wesley (Shannon) Brittain and Mary (Samuel) Bennett. She also had 20 great-grandchildren; Hannah Pettinelli, Andrew Pettinelli, Dominic Pettinelli, Felicity Johnson, Emma Bearup, Vivian Bearup, Benjamin Gallien, Maddison Gallien, Rachael Maliwacki, Brian Maliwacki, Natalie Maliwacki, Caiden Brittain, Ethan Brittain, Rylan Brittain, Nolan Brittain, Emerson Brittain, Melissa Brittain, Christian Bennett, Trinity Bennett and Elliot Bennett.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 7 at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Lester Smith. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 4-7 p.m.
