Theresa M. "Nonnie" Smith Theresa M. "Nonnie" Smith, 77, of Rome, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Rome Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer for 17 years. She was born in Rome, N.Y. on November 22, 1931, daughter of the late Antonio and Stella Consilio Rodriguez. On July 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to Jewel Smith. Theresa retired as a monitor from the Rome Public School System. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Nonnie's favorite thing was playing cards weekly with the Golden Girls, Ginny, Barb, Angie, Rita, Stella, Terry, Kathy and Lizzie. Nonnie also liked bowling and traveling on bowling trips. She also enjoyed dancing, going to the Music Man and cooking. Nonnie was famous for her meatballs. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Greg Paquette, Floyd, and Linda and Randy Iannotti, and Candance and Eric Westcott Sr., all of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Cathy Smith, Rome; eight grandchildren, Todd, Eric Jr., Justin, Joshua and Kelly Hemming, Jarett, Cristin, Matt and Pat; and five great grandchildren, Areanna, Mikaela, Brody, Jaylynn and Isabella. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister-in-law, John Rodriguez, Rome, and Antonio "Rod" and Lorraine Rodriguez, California; two sisters, Connie Cretaro, California, Virginia Bromley, Rome; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Nonnie had many "adopted" kids. The light of her eyes were her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she spent every day enjoying them. She also leaves behind her "canine grandkids," Betsy, Brandee, Chuckie and Cooper. She was predeceased by her parents, former husband, Jewel Smith, a grandson, Nicholas Iannotti, two brothers-in-law, Joe Bromley and Louie Cretaro; two sisters-in-law, Emma Rodriguez and Grace Rodriguez, and a niece, Robin Rodriguez. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Tallandini and a very special thank you to Dr. Atul Butula for being her doctor for the past 17 years and also nurse practitioner Michele and the nurses and office staff that were all very special to Nonnie. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Nicholas Iannotti or a charity of one's choice.
