Obituary of Ronald J. Pocchiari

Ronald J. Pocchiari, 65, of Rome, devoted son of Mary Mizgala and the late Danny R. Pocchiari, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in Rome. Ron was born on August 2, 1954 in Rome, NY. He was a 1972 graduate of Rome Free Academy. Ron earned a BS degree from SUNY Oneonta, an MS degree from Penn State and a DVM in veterinary medicine from The Ohio State University. After completing his veterinary degree, he was employed in Guilderland, NY. For the past twenty years, Ron has practiced in Cobleskill at the Cobleskill Veterinary Clinic. He was known for dedication to his profession and compassion for his clients and their beloved companions. Ron was an avid outdoor sports enthusiast. In high school he was a cross-country runner. He continued his passion for outdoor endurance sports throughout his life, including cycling, cross-country skiing and canoe racing. He is survived by his mother, Mary, a brother, Robert Pocchiari , West Monroe, NY, two sisters and two brothers-in-law , Diane Mills (Scott) of Cobleskill, NY, Susan Pocchiari (Zachary Horne) of Bethel, CT, and brother, Michael Pocchiari (Michelle) of Ava, NY. He is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews, Jaclynn Pocchiari, Evan, Andrew and Annie Mills, and Jacob Pocchiari. Ron was predeceased by his father, Danny and a nephew, Joseph Pocchiari. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 12, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, Rome, where relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in Ron's name to JDRF - Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th floor, NY, NY 10001 or your local Humane Society.
