Obituary of Barbara Caramella

Barbara Caramella, 82, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 suddenly at The Grand, Rome, after living at her home for eighty-two years. She was born in Rome, NY, on June 29, 1937, daughter of the late Angelo and Mary Donato Caramella. Barbara was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and attended the University of Miami, FL, where she received a basketball scholarship.
Barbara was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. She loved walking, exercising, music, coloring, painting pictures and socializing with friends. Barbara also enjoyed basketball, bowling and tennis. She loved cars, driving around, dining out and being with children. Barbara had a strong Catholic faith and believed in God. She always helped people and was a very kind soul. Barbara always looked on the bright side of life.
Surviving are a brother-in-law, Alex Kowalewski, Syracuse and nieces; Rose Kowalewski, Debra Granieri, Michelle Taylor, Bonnie Granieri, Marilyn Granieri and Donna Aiello, nephews; David Rizzo, Joseph Rizzo, James Rizzo, James Izzo and Albert Izzo. She was predeceased by three sisters; Caroline Izzo, Amelia Granieri and Marie Kowalewski, a brother, Pat Caramella.
The family wishes to express a thank you to Barbara's special caregivers; Laura and Nenette, along with Dale and Jackie and the staff of Valehaven.
Due to the current pandemic, a Graveside Memorial Service will be held at a future date, when all may attend. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
