Wishing my long time, best friend Geselle DeMatteo Sadler, and her wonderful family all my love today during her father's funeral. Mr. DeMatteo was always a kind and happy man when I visited Geselle's house starting in 1977 when her and I met at Staley Junior High School. I was fortunate to pick up Geselle in Albany in December 2019 and drive her to her house and had a chance to talk and visit with Mr. DeMatteo for a short time. Although he wasn't feeling well then, he sent me off with a smile as shown in his photo. Rest in peace Mr. DeMatteo. Love and prayers to the DeMatteo family. XO Tracy Chamberlain Higginbotham

To the DeMatteo family, my sincere sympathy on the passing of Spike. I knew him from childhood and in our teenage years. He lived a block away and he and Louie, his cousin and a few others would hang around our grocery store munching on snacks.A very nice person and family. May he rest in peace. I met Spike four years ago and we became friends immediately because of his warm and genuine personality and his sense of humor. He did not try to be funny, he was just naturally funny. We had many good times at Gaetano's Garage, especially when Spike and I would hit golf balls from the front parking lot into the field. The guys at the Grage and I will surely miss him. our deepest sympathies to the DeMatteo family. John and Rosemary Mody

My condolences to the DeMatteo family.
I grew up a couple doors down from Spike, Pat and their children, and next door to Spike's mother. Though I haven't seen the family in many years I remember Spike's presence with a certain awe. In the 1960's he drove a old blue Corvair, and the back seat was crusted over with mortar and masonry. He took Todd and I to Utica-Rome Speedway a couple times. He brought us football betting tickets, where we'd circle four teams and put down $.50 hoping to win $5.00! A cooler guy couldn't be. Later on I'd see him occasionally at (the old*) Dematteo's on Dominck St. He was always friendly. Godspeed Spike.
