Obituary of Daniel M. Guggi, Sr.

Daniel M. Guggi, Sr., 88, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, November, 1, 2020, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Rome, NY, on July 24, 1932, son of the late Albert and Jennie Corigliano Guggi. Dan graduated from Rome Free Academy and Utica College Division of Syracuse University. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. On April 23, 1955 he married Mamie Puleo in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort, NY. She passed away, June 20, 2016, a blessed marriage of sixty-one years. Dan retired from the Department of Navy at Griffiss Air Force Base as a project manager. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church. Dan was an enthusiastic coach of youth sports. He loved watching and attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events. Dan also enjoyed playing golf. He was a New York Giants fan and was Rome's oldest Red Sox fan. Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law; Daniel Jr. (Cindy) Guggi, of Rome, David (Cheri) Guggi of Odessa, FL and Albert Guggi of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Alissa (John) Sparace, of Rome, Danny (Pam) Guggi, of Williamsville, NY, Jennifer Guggi, Odessa, FL, Jessica (Russ) Madry, of Palm Harbor, FL, Julie Parker, of Odessa, FL, DJ Guggi, of Tarpon Springs, FL. Dan also leaves nine cherished great-grandchildren; Marco and Donte Sparace, Olivia and Eliza Guggi, Giana and Beckett Madry, Gracie, Tillie and Blake Parker. Dan had many special nieces and nephews, including Ann Marie and Rich Zakala, Ashley and James Crofoot, cousins and friends that he leaves behind. He was predeceased by his wife, Mamie, his parents and a sister, Rose Lovett and a niece, Deborah Crofoot. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Anyone wishing to attend is required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
