I will miss my visits with Slim at Rome Nursing Home. I admire the way your family handled his stay there. I so respect Mary and her commitment and faithfulness. I am so sorry for your loss.

Signy (Stewart) Ellerton-Cale posted a condolence
To Dick Fiore: I'm Signy (Stewart) Ellerton-Cale; when we were 15, we met in a private art class (Pete Burkard was there, too) and afterward, we'd walk over to the library to work on whatever "homework" we had(I particularly remember gathering leaves on the lawn and trying to arrange them "artistically" to draw for the next class...we had a good time in the class, and laughed a lot. I was new to Rome, and your kindness and easy manner made my transition so much better. I read the Sentinel online occasionally, and this evening, I saw your Dad's obituary, and I simply wanted to say how sorry I am. The passing of a parent is such a singular, jarring event, no matter how we may prepare for it. My Mom passed away in 2002, but my Dad is still with us, and we will always miss her. Your Dad must have been a particularly special guy to have raised, with your Mom, a wonderful family, including the cute 15 year old who helped me shed the "new kid in town" aura, and made me feel at home in Rome, too. I hope you are well, and that life has been good to you; I have no doubt you have a lovely family, which will help so much in this sad time. My best wishes and prayers for comfort go to you, Dick; it seems unbelievable that it's been 48 years since we gathered those leaves! Signy

Lou Crisci posted a condolence
My dad, Louis Crisci & Slim, became friends through their trade. My dad was also a printer. He owned his own print shop in Queens, NY. Everytime my dad brought the family up to Rome to see our relatives the first placed he wanted to go, was to see Slim. They seemed to always enjoy kiding with each other. I would like to express my condolences to the family.

Marisa Frey posted a condolence
Dear Family,
I was very sorry to hear of Slim's passing. He was a great man! I always looked forward to seeing on my visits to Rome. He was always interested in in what I was doing at school, later at college, then when I was married and teaching in Alaska.
The most important thing I remember about Slim is the friendship he brought to my grandparents, Louise and Joe Ceravolo. Slim, Mary, and my grandparents were such good friends and were great company for one another. I just loved listening to my grandfather argue with Slim about who knows what and then Slim teasing my grandmother about this, that, and what ever else came to mind. Oh, and I know how Slim loved my grandmother's cooking and her pies!
Slim is someone who will be missed, but you can rest assured that he will never be forgotten!
Love to you all!
Marisa Frey
