The family of Harriet Gower, Helen's friend from Brookdale, would like to offer our condolences at this sad time. Helen took our mom under her wing as a protective friend in the short time they new each other at Brookdale. She made sure helped with our mom's meals, as she had macular degeneration and had very limited vision. When they first met she told my mom her maiden name was Russo. Our mom's best friend was a woman also named Helen Russo and we would comment on that with Helen whenever we visited. We are so sorry, she was such a sweet woman. The Gower family

Dear Donna, Mike and family... Helen was so dear to the hearts of the entire Calnero clan. I can hear your mom's voice saying "Esther - hit the ball." Our parents thought the world of her and considered her a family member. I'll never forget my mom's voice, calling her "Spoon." It is so awful to lose them, but their light and legacy shines on! With sympathy, Lynn Calnero DiBari

Young Sam and I were friends during high school. I remember walking to his house from RFA because we were going to work on his truck, an IH Scout, or do school work, or go hunting. Mrs Spoon was always happy to see us and always went to the refrigerator to fix us something to eat. It wasn't just a snack, but a meal. She would cut thick slices of Italian bread, smear them with gobs of butter and then load on the ham, or roast beef or what ever else was in the fridge. No matter what the meat, it was always served on heavily buttered fresh Italian bread. So good! She was always very gracious and welcoming and said "Now you eat!" When I think of Sam, I always fondly remember those after school afternoons.

Helen will be dearly missed by us all at Brookdale. When anyone went into her room she made you feel like you could stay and talk to her forever. Her personality was one that we cherished everyday and will never be replaced. Thank you for sharing her with us.
