Obituary of Barbara D. Joanis

Barbara D. Joanis, 86, of Rome, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her family by her side. She was born in Rome, NY, on February 14, 1935, daughter of the late Frank W. Sr., and Mathilda Pfund Leffert. Barbara graduated from Rome Free Academy Class of 1953. On November 14, 1953 she married Donald N. Joanis in St. Peter Church. He passed away August 1, 2019. Barbara was a homemaker and former employee of Varflex Corp. She was of the Catholic faith. Surviving are two sons; David Joanis, South New Berlin, Robert M. Joanis Sr., Rome, two daughters and a son-in-law; Karen Putnam, Hampton, VA, Cheryl and John Shusdock, Boonville, twelve grandchildren; Christopher, Michael, Daniel, Robert, Timothy, Thomas, Joshua, Matthew, Allen, Kara-Leigh, Jennifer and Samantha; and twenty-four(and soon to be twenty-five) great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald N. Joanis, two brothers; David Leffert and Frank W. Leffert Jr., a sister, Geneieve Leffert and a daughter-in-law, Michelle Joanis. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 6:00 p.m., at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3-6 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
