Anthony "Tony" Philip Fiorini
Anthony "Tony" Philip Fiorini, 90, of Rome, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on October 21, 1919, son of the late Lazzaro and Carmella Sticca Fiorini. Tony was educated in Rome schools. On September 6, 1941, he married Gertrude Ann Vitale in St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Fiorini retired, after 45 years, from Revere Copper and Brass. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Tony enjoyed playing Bocce and cards at the Toccolana Club. Throughout the years, he enjoyed singing and dancing, bowling, hunting, fishing and going camping with his wife, Gertie, at Fish Creek Landing. Tony also loved the Yankees. He had a special relationship with his grandchildren and enjoyed every moment with them. One of the many things he looked forward to was going to the Camden High School football games with his family.
Surviving, besides his wife of 68 years, Gertie, are a son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Cecilia Fiorini, Rome; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Fiorini, Syracuse; eight grandchildren, David and his wife Danielle Fiorini, Aaron Fiorini, Brittany Fiorini, Mark and his wife Michelle Fiorini, Dan and his wife, Lori Fiorini, Maria and her husband Mike Gomes, Richard Hoppe and Robert and his wife Katie Hoppe; and 11 great grandchildren. Special to his heart were, Carrie Stace and Nick Antonio. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Anguili, Utica, Theresa D'Amore and Angie Garafolo, both of Rome; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Anthony Fiorini Jr., who passed away on July 10, 2006, and a brother, Gerry Fiorini.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the dedicated nurses, aides and doctors at Rome Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit, who's names are too numerous to mention. Thank you so much. You were compassionate, professional and caring.
