Obituary of Heather Jean Percival

Please share a memory of Heather to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Monday, May 16, 2022, Heather Jean Percival, of Cold Brook, NY, died peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer at the age of 83, with her family beside her.

Heather was born on October 15, 1938, to Murl and Jean (Mackie) Hazen, in Scranton, PA, and grew up in the town of Dunmore, PA. She was named after the beautiful purple flowers that grow on the hillsides of Scotland, by her Scottish born mother. Heather married Frank Percival of Dunmore and shortly thereafter moved to Buffalo, NY, to start their life. There they raised their children, Frank Jr, and Tracy (Forman).

Heather was a lifelong "homemaker" and was very proud of that. She was meticulous in the home and always knew where everything was at all times. She had quite the sweet tooth and loved her pastries and favorite candies. Black Jelly Beans comes to mind as one of her favorites. Heather enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and watching the "city wildlife" come into her yard. Twenty six years after her husband passed, more recently taking care of her mother until she passed, and with the loss of her sight from macular degeneration, Heather moved to Cold Brook, NY, to live in her own little house, near her daughter and son-in-law. It was quite different from the bustle of Buffalo. One of the great things about it is she loved owls and now lived where she could hear them at night too. Here she spent her time, enjoying life in the Adirondacks, listening to her country/western music, catching up on all the old Westerns she could find on TV, and staying up late to catch some old crime and mobster movies. She enjoyed getting visits from her grand dogs, Ice and Potter and walking to the mailbox escorted by Deuce the grand cat. Heather didn't like technology but she had one exception. She made great friends with her "Alexa", as "she" played any one of her favorite old songs she could think of. This was a favorite pastime. She still kept in touch though with all the Buffalo happenings, talking about news and the Bills weekly with her son. Always a Buffalo Bills fan!

Heather is survived by her loving children: Frank Percival, Jr., Buffalo, NY and a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Jim Forman, Cold Brook, NY. She is preceded in death by her parents, Murl and Jean (Mackie) Hazen, Sr., husband, Frank Percival, Sr., grandson, Cory Percival, and a brother, Murl Hazen, Jr.

"I've loved, I've laughed and cried. I've had my fill, my share of losing.

And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that and may I say, not in a shy way.

Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way."
