Obituary of Jeanne B. Mattis

Jeanne B. Mattis Jeanne B. Mattis, 86 of Rome and Syracuse, passed away, Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Oriskany, NY, on July 2, 1926, daughter of the late Levi and Elizabeth Provost Birge. She was married to Richard Thurston and later married Donald Mattis who passed away on October 29, 2001. Jeanne was a retired teacher from the Rome City School District retiring in 1984. Mrs. Mattis was a member of Rome teachers association, where she was actively involved in negotiations. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Eliza and Ronald Kingston and Angela Jackson all of Syracuse, NY, a son Paul Thurston, Kirkwood, NY, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Peter Thurston. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care provided by Tammy, Sue, Robin, Bill W., Sharon, Deb and Cindy. Services will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome, NY 13440.
