Benedetto S. Diliberto
Benedetto S. Diliberto, 88, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016. He was born in Frankfort, NY, on July 1, 1928 son of the late Sylvester and Rosalia Randazzo Diliberto. Bennie served with the U. S. Navy during WWII on the Destroyer USS Turner DD834 and after the war participated in the Nuclear Bomb tests in the Pacific known as Operation Crossroads. On September 15, 1951 he married Violet Bauerle in St. Peter's Church, Rome. Bennie retired from Griffiss Air Force Base where he worked in Civil Engineering as a ground power mechanic. He was a member of St. Peter's Church and H.P. Smith Post # 24 American Legion. Bennie was a former member of the Toccolana Club and Rome Moose Club. In the late sixties and early seventies he was a coach of the MESA 2 American Little League Baseball team at Pinti Field and was a volunteer leader with Boy Scouts of America Troop #27 at Columbus School.
Surviving besides his wife Violet is a son, Michael Diliberto and his wife Pauline Clark of Leesburg, VA, granddaughters, Brittany Diliberto, Ashley Rivero and grandson Nicholas Rivero. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Nancy Diliberto, Frankfort, NY, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Bennie S. Diliberto, who passed away on August 22, 2016, five brothers; Paul, Sam, Nick, Jim and Sylvester Diliberto, four sisters, Tina Costanza, Grace Bono, Betty Caparrusso, and Lena Cicculli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm at St. Peter's Church, with the Rev. Philip Hearn officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., on Thursday from 4-7 pm.
