Obituary of Richard "Ziggy" Zigrino
Richard "Ziggy" J. Zigrino, 77, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, NY, on October 16, 1941, son of Frank H. and Connie M. Coccagnia Zigrino. Ziggy graduated from Rome Free Academy and Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, TN. Ziggy served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1968, where he was wounded in action. On May 23, 1970 he married Linda Terry in St. John the Baptist Church.
Ziggy retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier after several years of service. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans and Rome American Legion. Ziggy was an avid golfer and bowler. He was inducted into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
Surviving besides his wife Linda, are two sons and a daughter-in-law; Richard and Jennifer Zigrino, Darren Zigrino, a daughter, Tanya Zigrino Raya and her husband Stephen, all of Colorado, three grandchildren, Will, Owen, and Knox. Also surviving are three brothers and sisters-in-law; Angelo and Mary Zigrino, GA, Frank and Janice Zigrino, New York City, Kenneth and Andrea Zigrino, MN, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Debbie and Derwood Roberts, FL, Rachelle and Jeff Roberts, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m.
