Obituary of Mary M. Pocchiari

Mary M. Pocchiari, 90, of Town of Lee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility. She was born in Rome, NY, on August 31, 1929, daughter of the late Sam and Rose Yuschak Mizgala. On September 16, 1950 she married, Danny R. Pocchiari, in St. Peter's Church, Rome. He passed away June 12, 1978. Mary was employed in the insurance industry, her entire working career, primarily with Harry F. Rice, Inc., Rowland, Bellinger and Comstock and retired from Reidman Insurance Co. She was a communicant of St. Paul's Church for sixty years. Mary was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She was ever curious about people and the world and loved to travel. She enjoyed attending theater, concerts, and performance events as well as exploring her interests with her iPad. Surviving are her children; Robert Pocchiari, West Monroe, NY, Diane and her husband Scott Mills, Cobleskill, NY, Susan Pocchiari and her husband Zachary Horne, Bethel, CT, Michael and his wife Michelle Pocchiari, Ava, NY, grandchildren; Evan (Christina), Andrew and Anne Mills, Jaclynn (Joel) Schneiderhan, and Jacob Pocchiari. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Helen Mizgala, Rome, a sister, Pauline Froelich, Whitesboro, and many nieces and nephews, along with her dear friends including Lillian Heald. She was predeceased by her husband Danny, a devoted son, Ronald J. Pocchiari, a grandson, Joseph Pocchiari, two brothers; John and Harry Mizgala and two sisters; Anna Cornacchia and Jennie Mizgala. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at The Terrace at Woodland, especially for the loving care given by Monica, Francesca and Grace. Also, a special thank you to Robin and staff of Rome Residential Health Care Facility. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29, 2020, 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul's Church with the Rev. Robert L. Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., on Friday, August 28, 2020 from 4-7 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend is required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
